Relying on the same hormone as procreation and labour, nursing a baby at the breast is an act of love that can be a beautiful, calming experience for the mother and baby. However, the pressure women often feel to breastfeed, from their own hopes to society in general, only raises the risk of complications.
There is a significant lack of support and understanding throughout the postnatal period including breastfeeding. Most women who become breastfeeding supporters do so because of their own experience and frustrations at the lack of investment in this area.
As an NCT trained Breastfeeding Counsellor, I am able to offer in home support for breast, bottle and combination feeding. My personal focus is to support mothers, and their partners, to understand and overcome the early challenges to achieve their feeding goals, whatever they may be. Examples of common topics include:
Home visit: £55
Flexible, two hour home visit, arranged around your baby's feeding pattern to ensure I am able to observe a feed.
* The Birth Doula package includes support with the first feed.
* The Postnatal Doula package includes breastfeeding support.
* Excludes travel if further than 30 mins from home (rate = 0.45p/mile)
If you feel you need urgent support you can speak to an NCT breastfeeding counsellor every day from 8am to midnight, including bank holidays, by calling 0300 330 0700.
